Irlene Mandrell Honored With SWIFT Alice Award
06/24/19 - On Saturday night (6/22) in Nashville, Irlene Mandrell was honored with a Alice Award during the very first award show at Lipscomb University. She is pictured above accepting the award and at the right walking the red carpet with her daughters Vanessa and Christina Mandrell.
The Alice Awards Gala honored women in the entertainment industry who exemplify the spirit of Alice Guy-Blache, an extraordinary woman who experimented with sound during the silent era, with color-tinting during the black & white era, and with diverse casting when it was unthinkable.
She said upon receiving the award, "I started out different than most of you It really wasn't in movies or TV it was as a drummer and all I wanted to do was be the best drummer. And then things started graduating, I did some modeling and then the next thing you know Barbara (Mandrell) called and said, 'Do you want to do a national TV show.'"
Mandrell is the youngest of the world famous Mandrell sisters, who all starred on the popular NBC show, Barbara Mandrell and the Mandrell Sisters.
She also starred in the country music variety series Hee-Haw with Roy Clark, Minnie Pearl and Buck Owens for eight years and has appeared on numerous television shows.
Other honorees were Gospel songstress, CeCe Winans, Lisa Erspamer, former CEO of the OWN Network and former NBC anchorwoman Demetria Kalodimos.
